The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is a centuries-old pilgrimage route that stretches across northern Spain and France. The Camino, as it is commonly known, has been a popular pilgrimage route since the Middle Ages, and today it is a beloved cultural and spiritual journey for people from all walks of life. In this article, we will take a brief look at the Camino de Santiago past and explore its origins. 

Early History: The origins of the Camino de Santiago can be traced back to the 9th century, when a French monk named Godescalc was given a vision to follow a star and go to the "field of stars" in the Iberian Peninsula. This vision was followed by a legend of a tomb of St. James, a disciple of Jesus, that had been discovered in a small village in the north of Spain. 

Medieval Pilgrimages: During the Middle Ages, the Camino de Santiago became one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Europe. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the continent made the journey, seeking spiritual renewal and indulgences for their sins. These medieval pilgrims were known as "peregrinos" or "wayfarers", and the Camino de Santiago quickly became an important symbol of the Christian faith. 

Modern Revival: In the late 20th century, the Camino de Santiago experienced a revival, as more and more people began to discover the beauty and spiritual significance of the route. This led to the establishment of several preserved trails, as well as the opening of hostels and refuges along the route.
